AVOID THE WORD “BLANK” ON A PIVOT TABLE
In a new column of the Raw Data Sheet, place this formula =IF(ISBLANK(E2),"unpaid",E2) on row 2. E2 is the 1st cell address of the original data column that has blanks and “unpaid” is the text you want instead of blank. Then name the New Column. Place an Add-In on the Properties tab as in the 1st pic below. After hitting OK, the 2nd pic comes up.
Go ahead and select the Fill in Example button. Change the settings as follows: The column to begin at is the position of the new column, counting from the left. If the formula is in row 2, put 3 in the next field “copy to.” Excel Range to Copy is the cell address of the formula. In the next field, column 1 is ok. No for replace formula with value. End column number = 1. Insert new rows = no. Then on the pivot table, put the new column in place of the old one that was producing “Blank.”
